Why I send couples here

Most cruise lines try to be everything for everyone, and end up doing a lot of things adequately. Virgin went the other way — adults-only across the whole fleet, dozens of restaurants included in the fare, basic Wi-Fi baked in, interiors that read more Soho House than carpet-and-brass megaliner.

No kids' club shaping the pool deck. No 6:30 dinner by decree. No nickel-and-diming dressed up as choice. It's the line I keep recommending to the people who've told me, in one form or another, we want to be on a ship, but we don't want to feel like we're on a cruise.

What you're actually paying for

The fare covers the dining, the basic Wi-Fi, the group fitness, the coffee and soft drinks. What's extra is named and bounded — alcohol (clean with a pre-paid Bar Tab), gratuities (billed separately as of late 2025), premium Wi-Fi, spa, shore excursions.

Against a fare that looks lower up front, the gap narrows fast once you add the gratuities, the drink package, the dining surcharges, and the Wi-Fi most people end up buying anyway. What you get for the spend — the design, the food, the absence of being upsold at every turn — is, to my eye, the stronger trip.
